Here it goes.
I have been refinishing a cocktail table designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller during the early sixties. I believe the piece was designed circa., 1960's. George Nelson is considered by many as the grandfather of design and began what is considered to be the era of 'mid-century modern'.
I started the project this past April 2011 and have been slowly bringing it back to it's original form. My great friend Jim Gebbens commissioned me to recreate it's legacy, since most great works of fine art/ furniture share a rich history.
It came to me in a semi-ruined form. Apparently, the dog was chewing along the corners. With that being said, the story has not been fully completed.
Jim had inherited the piece from his grandfather who actually worked for Herman Miller during one of the greatest periods in modern design.
At this point I have almost completed the project.
Stay tuned and hopefully I can recreate a story that many will appreciate for years to come.
Regards,
Joel VanDam
